Over the last 2 years since owning my MG and done quite a lot of different jobs a length of angle iron has come very handy.
First when i took the engine out i used a piece of angle iron to strap on the engine to give some extra support to lift it out.
Later when swopping carbs i drilled the angle iron to bolt the carbs together using the filter location holes. This meant I could set up the linkages off the car, present the 2 carbs to the manifold and fix whilst still bolted to the angle iron.
When i had the gearbox out the car again I used angle iron to bolt to the pinion flange to hold it firm whilst undoing the pinion nut.
