Another Clutch Slave Cylinder

Having only re bled the clutch hydraulics only a few weeks back the clutch failed again causing me to limp home in 2nd gear. It was the only gear I could get …. having to start the car on 2nd gear to get moving.

Once the car was jacked up I could see that the slave cylinder was clearly leaking.

Once the new cylinder was connected to the pipework I used my proven set up to bleed the system …. might look a bit elaborate but it works. A cable tie to hold the plunger as far as it will go into the cylinder to limit any space for air to collect. Hanging so air rises in the cylinder into the bleed nipple. Although I had a one way valve connected I still reckon the 2 person method is best. One operating the pedal whilst the other “controls” the nipple!

Once bolted back in place and connected back up to the clutch fork lever all worked fine and I’m back on the road again.

  1. Love how clean the underside of your engine and gearbox are! I wish bleeding the brakes had a similar fail proof system. Jacking the front up and leaving the brake pedal jammed down for 48 hours seems ‘Heath-Robinson’!!
