Carburettor Flooding

Went to start the car to go to a car meet but the engine was very rough and next a strong smell of petrol. Switched engine off, looked underneath to see petrol on the floor.

I checked under the bonnet and there were no visible signs of fuel leaks from the top so I switched the ignition back on again to see which carb overflow pipe the fuel was coming from ….. which I could see was the rear pipe meaning the rear carb had a problem.

After taking (HIF4) carbs off and removing   the bottom plate from the rear carb I could see that the float was half full of petrol. New ones are over £50 from the usual suppliers and seem to be a different style so I bought a used one from ebay for a quarter of new price.

New flat fitted and carbs reassembled after checking the flat level as per manual. I also checked the front carb level as well which was slightly out.

From what I could tell the flat is the dmw as used in the HIF4, HIF44 and HIF6.
