The boot carpet that came with the car was just draped over the fuel pump cover and never laid neat and flat in that corner as a result. I’ve noticed that carpets I’ve seen for sale are not shaped to lie around the cover as well.
After marking the carpet around the cover and removing the carpet i cut 2 slots. My wife tidied up the edges with some leatherette.
Looks a lot tidier now and sits nicely around the cover. Very pleased.
