These are photos after I took the heater out a couple of years ago. First impression was – no wonder the heater was pretty useless. Look closer at the first picture and you can see why..
Am pretty sure that out has been like this from new looking at the deterioration of the rubber bulkhead packer which looked like a half eaten aero chocolate bar and the fact that the paintwork shade of red was flamenco red not flame red as painted in 1996 when restored.
In case if you’ve not spotted the problem the foam insulation has been wrapped around the heater element the wrong way round preventing any air flow through the heater!! I wonder if this was from new when there was a lot of industrial problems at Leyland? ….. or simply by an operator who just did not know what he was doing. How many more could there be going around like this!!
